Biography :
With a first degree in Biochemistry from Cardiff, in 1966, and a PhD from the University of the West Indies in Jamaica in 1970, an interest in nutrition and the role of dietary protein shaped my career at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine up to 1992, and at the University of Surrey up to my full retirement in 2009 as Emeritus Professor of Human Nutrition. My nutritional expertise in protein and energy metabolism resulted in my membership of several international expert consultations on Protein Quality, Protein and Amino Acid Requirements, Energy Requirements, as well as UK National committees involving protein and energy requirements.
