Biography :

Chunying Du is an Associate Professor of liver biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Her laboratory aims to uncover the molecular mechanisms driving metabolic liver diseases and cancer, focusing on mitochondrial regulation of apoptosis and energy metabolism. Her pioneering work examines BRUCE Ub-ligase-regulated ubiquitination pathways in liver tumors, MASLD, and MASH. Her discovery of Smac/Diablo at UT Southwestern underpins her current SMAC mimetic patents. Her landmark work is widely cited in Cell, Nature, Hepatology, and PNAS. Currently funded by the The National Institue of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), her research examines how Western diets and ‘forever chemical’ PFAS toxins trigger BRUCE-mitochondrial dysfunction and liver pathogenesis.
